Anne Claude de Tubières, Comte de Caylus (1692-1765) was the son of Marthe de Caylus, the niece of Madame de Maintenon. He was a distinguished and flamboyant artist, archaeologist and diplomat, and was appointed Ambassador to Turkey by King Louis XV. He is also the author of a Recueil d'Antiquités and of writings on the painter Antoine Watteau.
